A cycling trip turned into a tragedy in a second: Two firefighters will never see their families again! – New time

They went for a ride, they never came back to their families! A cycling trip of colleagues and four friends from the Fire and Rescue Service ended tragically. They wanted to diversify the free time they had during the training in Lešt, so they agreed to go somewhere in the saddle of bicycles. But a car ran into them in the village of Sása (Zvolen district). Two of them did not survive the impact… The hilly terrain in Podpoľaní attracts cyclists from all over Slovakia also because many roads offer attractive views of the picturesque nature. Colleagues from the Fire and Rescue Service also liked these routes. On a hot Monday in July, the foursome decided to use the time off from work effectively and set off on the road in the saddles of their bicycles. The guys, in excellent condition, were pedaling while returning from a several-hour trip along the road in the cadastre of the small village of Sása, when a car crashed into them. All emergency services arrived at the scene of the accident in a short time, unfortunately, they were unable to help the two men. “During the accident, a passenger vehicle collided with four cyclists – members of the HaZZ, who were riding bicycles during their personal leave. As a result of the accident, one of the members suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Another suffered serious injuries, which he succumbed to on the spot despite the enormous efforts of the rescuers,” the firemen informed. Two of them escaped without injuries, but they had to watch helplessly as their friends from the choir died before their eyes. “The Fire and Rescue Service expresses its sincere condolences to the families, survivors and colleagues. This tragic event is a blow to the entire choir,” their colleagues condoled on the social network.
