Ricky Martin reacts to protective order against him 1:07 (CNN) — Singer Ricky Martin’s attorney has refuted allegations of abuse by the singer’s adult nephew, calling them “false” and “disgusting.” Martin received a domestic abuse protection order earlier this month from Puerto Rican police. It was reportedly imposed by his 21-year-old nephew, according to Spanish media outlet Marca, citing a member of Martin’s family. The story included allegations that Martin and his nephew had been in a romantic relationship. Martin’s attorney, Marty Singer, strongly denied the allegations in a statement to CNN on Monday. “Unfortunately, the person who made this claim is struggling with deep-seated mental health issues. Ricky Martin, of course, has never been, and will never be, involved in any type of sexual or romantic relationship with his nephew. The idea is not just it’s false, it’s disgusting. We all hope this man gets the help he so urgently needs. But most of all, we hope this horrific case is dismissed as soon as a judge looks at the facts,” Singer said. Ricky Martin himself tweeted about the protection order on July 3, writing that it was based on “completely false” accusations and that he will face the process “with the facts and dignity that characterize me.” The hearing of the case is scheduled for July 21 in the Court of First Instance of San Juan. Martin is scheduled to perform at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic on July 22.
