ANDREJ SEKERA is one of the best defenders in Slovak history. Once one of the Edmonton Oilers’ most important players, he celebrated his 36th birthday a month ago. He played the last three seasons in the Dallas Stars club, with which he made it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals in the 2019/2020 season. He is currently a free agent, but he turned down an offer from the NHL. The native of Bojnice is one hundred percent convinced that he will not extend his career. “I didn’t want to chase myself for another season,” explained the captain of the Slovak national team at the home championship in Košice in an interview for Sportnet. You moved from Dallas back to Slovakia and took time to think. How is your hockey career going? My hockey career is over. I got some offers as a free agent but decided to end it anyway. A lot of people thought that the son had health problems for the last year. After everything we’ve been through, I realized that it would be best for me to focus on my family. I thought it would somehow break over the summer, but it didn’t. Isn’t there even a small chance that something would break you? Nothing will convince me 100 percent anymore. What other offers did you get after the season ended?
