Home favorite Fred Kerley (9.86) won ahead of Marvin Bracy and Trayvon Bromell (both 9.88). The United States won a complete set of world medals in the shortest sprint for the third time in history, the last time was in Tokyo 1991. The Americans took half of the final, which was missing the surprise Olympic champion from Tokyo, Marcell Jacobs, who did not participate in the semifinals due to injury.
