Austrian firefighters freed four Slovaks from a car in which they were allegedly locked by another Slovak on the night of Saturday in Vienna. The men calling for help were noticed by a passerby who called the police. They were obviously running out of oxygen, writes the APA agency.
The incident took place in Vienna’s Brigittenau district. The responding firefighters broke the window of the car and pulled out men aged 20, 24, 33 and 42.
The investigation showed that the men had been staying in the Austrian capital for several days and were working there, presumably illegally. They spent the nights in the car of their 45-year-old friend, who locked the vehicle on Friday evening, which they said he had not done in the previous days.
The police announced on Saturday that the owner was preliminarily detained on suspicion of restricting personal freedom. “He denies the allegations and says it was a misunderstanding,” police spokeswoman Barbara Gass said.
The four men were examined by the workers of the Vienna emergency service, who said that they did not need further care, APA adds.
