Government of Panama approves new economic relief measures and calls for a dialogue with the protesting groups

Protests in Panama continue despite new economic measures 3:04 (CNN Spanish) — The Government of Panama approved new measures that seek to provide economic relief to society by freezing the price of gasoline, assigning a price cap a dozen more products from the basic basket and implement 10 austerity measures in addition to those previously executed, the Presidency reported in a statement on Wednesday. The Government also announced the call for a dialogue table with organized groups, associations and representative movements that have been demonstrating in various parts of the country in recent days. According to the statement, the Catholic Church has offered itself as a mediator. However, the Association of Educators from Veragüenses (AEVE) and the National Alliance for the Rights of the Organized People (Anadepo) “reject” and “delegitimize” the dialogue table and call for a new mobilization in Santiago de Veraguas this Thursday. The dialogue called by the government is scheduled for this Thursday at 3 pm (local time) in Panama City.
