Fatal accident between a car and a heavy goods vehicle on the D 945 in Hagetaubin – La République des Pyrénées

According to the first elements of the investigation, the accident occurred at 4:09 p.m. The car was driving on the D31 and the truck on the D945, in the direction of Sault-de-Navailles/Pau. As the light vehicle entered the intersection, it was hit from the front by the truck, which then overturned on its side after its driver lost control. The investigations should determine whether or not the priority was respected before the impact. The driver of the heavyweight deceased The man driving the heavyweight, 58 years old, is, still according to the gendarmerie, died on the spot. His body had to be extricated from the cab of the truck. The two occupants of the car – both elderly, the driver being 77 years old – were not injured but “extremely shocked”. They were evacuated to the Pau hospital center. The driver of the truck, after the collision with the car, lost control of his truck and overturned. He died instantly. Nina Dworianyn The truck was carrying 30 m3 of black liquor, a product used in stationery, “not dangerous to breathe but corrosive to the touch”. After inspection of the truck, two small leaks were finally detected. One was brought under control, the other was still being treated by the firefighters. According to the mayor of Hagetaubin, Frédéric Gouaillardou, the liquid will be pumped and transferred to another heavyweight. Note that a security perimeter has been set up around the accident site. Firefighters quickly responded to the scene. Traffic had to be cut on the RD945. Nina Dworianyn Significant resources were mobilized for this relief operation. With in particular around 40 firefighters from the fire and rescue centers of Pau, Mourenx-Artix, Orthez, Arthez, Arzac, Urt, Puyô. A dozen gendarmes from the Artix, Mourenx and Orthez brigades were also on site. After 7 p.m., traffic was still cut off on the D 945 during the liquid pumping operation. Diversions have been put in place.
