(CNN Spanish) – Instagram apologized for removing the poster from its platform of Pedro Almodóvar’s most recent film, “Parallel Mothers.”
On Wednesday, August 11, Instagram’s parent company Facebook acknowledged in a statement that the decision to remove the image of the movie’s poster from the social network was based on its anti-nudity policies.
The poster shows the image of a nursing nipple framed in an oval with a red background that gives it the appearance of being a crying eye.
After the image was removed from their networks, the poster designer, Javier Jaen, criticized Instagram’s decision. The artist wrote: “As expected @instagram has removed the poster we made for Almodóvar’s latest movie #madresparalelas. I will post it again. Thanks for sharing.”
Facebook policy prohibits displaying female nipples on its platforms. However, the company explained that it makes exceptions to allow nudity and certain circumstances, for example when there is a clear artistic context.
And he said he had consequently restored posts on Instagram that shared the movie poster, while also apologizing for any confusion it caused.
The images of the poster are visible on the social network without any kind of censorship. Several personalities have already shared the poster from their official accounts.
“Parallel Mothers”, starring Penelope Cruz, will open the Venice Film Festival this September 1st.
