Volkswagen revealed the 2nd generation Phaeton – REFRESHER

The Volkswagen Phaeton was shown to the world for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in 2002, where it embodied the wishes of the head of the Volkswagen Group. The famous Ferdinand Piëch gave the engineers a clear task – to develop a limousine that will have the flagships of the BMW and Mercedes-Benz brands in mind. The production of the first generation, with the number of over 84,000 units produced, took up to fourteen years, which is approximately twice as long as one life cycle of a conventional vehicle usually represents, but the Phaeton ended up without a successor, de facto as a failed project. In 2016, the company completely wrote off its luxury limousine and instead focused on electromobility. However, on the occasion of the 20th birthday of this model, Volkswagen unexpectedly showed a functional prototype of the successor, which, however, never made it into series production. Source: Volkswagen Phaeton D2 (the first generation stood on the platform designated as D1) was obviously already a done deal, which also confirms the fact that the basic building block was the MLB platform, which the concern still uses today. Marco Pavone and Tomasz Bachorski signed the design. The majestic sedan was supposed to offer again really smooth, but intergenerationally more pompous curves, but perhaps even more interesting will be its luxurious interior. We are not referring so much to its design or the materials used and overall very dazzling impression, but rather to the technological equipment. The manufactured prototype comes from 2016, when the trend of large screens and a minimum of physical buttons was far from over. However, the Phaeton D2 was already equipped with huge displays with dimensions that even the current generation Audi A8 does not have for comparison. Looking at the graphics themselves, the distribution of individual elements on the displays, as well as other details of the dashboard, the observant eye of a car fan will notice that the third generation Touareg received identical screens and a multimedia system. However, it only came to the market in 2018. Even this remarkable prototype reminds us so clearly that the vehicles that come to the market are often ready several years before the car company presents them to us for the first time. Now we can only debate how the number two Phaeton would do on the market and whether it would mix up the cards more than its predecessor. View gallery 7 Report an error.
