Heat advisory for 80 million people in the US 0:46 (CNN) — More than 30 million people are under heat advisories this Monday in the southern and central Plains, the Southwest, the northern California/Southern Oregon and the San Joaquin Valley. Heat alerts include both high temperature advisories and excessive heat warnings. High temperatures are forecast to reach 32 to 38 degrees Celsius in these regions on Monday. A handful of daily high temperature records could be broken in Texas. Heat indexes (the temperatures that you feel) are expected to climb as high as 46 degrees in areas of Texas where excessive heat advisories have been issued, including San Antonio and Austin. Meanwhile, temperatures across the Southwest are projected to be dangerous, also reaching 46 degrees. Parts of the Grand Canyon and Phoenix are under an excessive heat advisory throughout Monday. There are also heat advisories in southern Oregon and northern California, including Medford and Redding. Temperatures are expected to peak in these regions, with highs as high as 44 degrees. Although no records are expected in this region, temperatures will be a few degrees above normal. Additionally, high temperature advisories have been issued for the San Joaquin Valley, where temperatures are expected to reach 42 degrees. People under these alerts are strongly advised to drink plenty of water, stay in the shade, and limit outdoor activities during the heat peak of the day.
