His car stopped and flames came out of the rear with 14 laps to go, while he was tailing Verstappen and looking for a one-two for Ferrari. Verstappen’s teammate Sergio Perez, who had been second overall, also retired with the car damaged after a first-lap collision with Mercedes’ George Russell.
