All options are on the table. After the ultimatum from SaS Richard Sulík (54), the coalition is reeling in uncertainty. The liberals put only two options on the table as to how the situation can develop further – either Igor Matovič (49) will leave as Minister of Finance, or the Sulík people from the government will be appointed. This would trigger a wave of changes that could only culminate in early elections. However, it seems that SaS’s appeal will not be met with understanding, and the first reaction of OĽaNO speaks clearly – Matovič remains and they will not accept any ultimate demands. Sulík announced that the party unanimously agreed to terminate the coalition agreement. “As before, even with the best will, it is no longer possible to continue,” said Sulík. According to them, the highlight was breaking the veto with the help of the fascists for Matovič’s package, which is not covered by income from the state budget. “As if it wasn’t enough that our government was affected by the corona, economic recession, energy crisis, war with neighbors, we also have Igor Matovič,” explained Sulík. The ultimatum is valid until the end of August, and the only viable option for SaS is the departure of Matovič and a new coalition agreement. OĽaNO chose 24 hours to respond to the Sulík residents. On Thursday, they sent a statement in which they write that SaS threats are unacceptable to them. “The OĽaNO movement communicated in advance that it would not accede to any ultimate demands of the SaS party and that Igor Matovič would remain the Minister of Finance. Nevertheless, SaS decided to put unrealistic demands on the table. We are very sorry, but it rather shows us that it is not a sincere effort to come to an agreement, but only a search for an excuse for a pre-planned departure from the government. Our position remains and will remain unchanged,” said the OĽaNO presidency. They added that they believed SaS would back down from its plan to “overthrow the next government”. According to parliamentary calculations, the fall of the government would not happen automatically. Heger’s government could continue, it would just be a minority. In the National Council, they would rely on 69 MPs plus some who regularly vote with the coalition.
