Slovan faces a difficult task next week on Wednesday – to fight for promotion on the opponent’s field. “It is always possible to improve, in Georgia the home fans will have support, but I believe that we will progress. We have good players, we just need to understand each other more,” says the coach of the Slovak champion. His team was held by goalkeeper Adrián Chovan several times, the guests often had the upper hand despite the fact that they lost captain Mamuka Kobachidze in the 42nd minute. He received a second yellow card for a foul on Tigran Barseghjan. “They defended well and it doesn’t matter that they were ten. They had a good position and we didn’t push through. We tried to stretch it out, Medvedev and Zmrhal had chances, but we didn’t succeed,” Weiss commented on the dominant game. Subsequently, he also praised Chovan: “He played well, caught two difficult shots and held the team. That’s how it should be, he’s a unit and I trust him.” Slovan needed to score at home, but struggled in the end. “The offensive four did not show what they are capable of. We have a week to improve,” concluded the captain, who believes that Slovan will be able to retaliate and will face the more successful FC Tobol Kostanaj and Ferencváros Budapest in the second preliminary round.
