The turn of June and July brought a wave of extremely hot weather to Slovakia. Records were being rewritten and the drought, which some regions have been struggling with for several weeks, was deepening. However, a more significant change in weather awaits us in just a few days. The last days of June and the first days of July, with the exception of Saturday, brought very warm weather to our area. Temperatures rose to values that represent an extreme burden on the human body. On Thursday, June 30, we also broke the monthly temperature record from ten years ago. In the village of Somotor in the Trebišov district, the temperature rose to 38.8 °C, breaking the record by 0.6 °C. It was also warm on the first two days of July, when we hit +39 °C, especially on Friday. The cold front that started to move through our territory on Friday evening brought cooling on Saturday. It mostly got colder by 7 to 13 °C, in places in the north by more than 15 °C. The warm weather will peak on Monday. The weather in our country is currently affected by a weakening high pressure. Very warm air began to flow towards us from the southwest along its back side. Therefore, mostly clear or partly cloudy weather prevails in several places. Only in places there is or will be temporarily more cloud cover. Temperatures are also climbing higher today than they were during Saturday. Maximum daily temperatures today can be expected at the level of +29 °C to +34 °C. It is colder only in the north. Maximum temperature on Sunday, July 3 The warm weather will peak tomorrow, when a weak pressure field will be over our area. Later, however, a cold front will advance from the west over central Poland, western Slovakia and northwestern Hungary, before which very warm air will flow towards us from the south. On Monday, it will therefore be clear to partly cloudy in most areas. Only in the west there will be more clouds, and that’s where you have to expect showers and storms. The maximum daily temperatures will rise from +31 °C to +36 °C. It will be colder only in Orava and below the Tatras, up to +29 °C. The maximum daily temperature on Monday, July 4. Cyril and Methodius will bring the beginning of cooling. On Tuesday, July 5, we will commemorate the feast of the Slavic believers. On this day, it will start to cool down in our territory. A cold front will pass through our area towards the east, which will wave. Later, a ridge of high pressure will spread towards us from the west. Therefore, mostly heavy clouds will prevail and it will gradually spread in many places from the west, while local storms will also form. Temperatures will be lower compared to Monday, but it will still be very warm locally. Tuesday’s highs will rise to +27 °C to +32 °C. However, it will be above +30 °C only in the southeast of the country. In a similar spirit, the temperatures will also be carried on Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday, we will come under the influence of colder air. The drop in temperatures will be felt throughout the territory. With partly cloudy to cloudy skies, from which, especially in the north, showers will form, the daily temperature will rise to +22 °C to +27 °C. However, it seems that temperatures above +30 °C, after the current wave of warm weather ends, will not reach our territory until July 14.
