The Kherson region in southern Ukraine is preparing to hold a referendum on joining Russia. This was announced on Wednesday by Promoskov local representative Kyrylo Stremousov, whom Moscow describes as the deputy head of the Kherson civil-military regional administration. TASR reports on the basis of a report by Reuters. “We are preparing for a referendum and will hold it. The Kherson region will accept a solution and join the Russian Federation – it will become a full-fledged entity that can function as a single state unit in which nations will not only live together but become one family, nations Russia, “Stremousov said in a video posted on his official Telegram social network account. “We will build the country we have all dreamed of for so long, in which we have always lived. The same principle of the Soviet Union, where every woman was a mother, where the friendship of nations was not based only on a declaration, but was completely spontaneous,” the pro-Russian official added. Earlier last week, Stremousov announced that the referendum could take place in the autumn. The Kherson region lies north of the Crimean peninsula, which Russia annexed eight years ago. It was one of the first regions to be controlled by Russian troops after its invasion on February 24. The pro-Russian armed forces detained the pro-Kiev, duly elected mayor of Kherson, Ihor Kolychayev, only on Tuesday. Radio Free Europe (RFE / RL) wrote on its website that Kolychayev was detained because he openly refused to cooperate with the “occupying power”.
