Horror, right in the middle of Texas. The number of people found dead Monday in a truck in Texas is at least 46, according to a new report released at a press conference by the fire chief of San Antonio. This tragedy is one of the worst in migration in recent years. This drama was described as “absolutely horrible”, by the spokesperson for the White House. “We have so far taken care of approximately 46 bodies”, indicated Charles Hood, who specified that sixteen wounded – twelve adults and four children – had been taken care of and were “conscious” when transported to medical services. The mass grave was discovered by an individual working nearby who “heard a call for help” and approached to see what was going on, San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said during the press conference. Twenty-two Mexican nationals are counted among the migrants who died in Texas, according to the Mexican president. 60 mobility firefighters Three people were arrested, according to him, but “we don’t know if they are absolutely linked to this or not”. The investigation, now federal, has been entrusted to investigators from the Department of Homeland Security, said Mr. McManus. “We are facing a horrible human tragedy tonight,” said Ron Nirenberg, Mayor of San Antonio. “We hope that those responsible for placing these people in such inhumane conditions will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.” Some 60 firefighters have been mobilized to take care of the remains and will receive psychological support, said their chief Charles Hood. “You’re not supposed to open a truck and find piles of bodies in there,” he said of the trauma his men faced. Trucks such as the one found in San Antonio, about 150 miles from the border with Mexico, are a means of transport frequently used by migrants wishing to enter the United States. Such a trip is extremely dangerous, especially since these vehicles are rarely air-conditioned and their occupants quickly run out of water. “They were suffering from heat exhaustion” “The patients we saw were very hot touch, they suffered from heatstroke, heat exhaustion, we did not find any trace of water in the vehicle, ”listed the fire chief. Mexican Minister of Foreign Affairs Marcelo Ebrard regretted on Twitter a “tragedy” and indicated that the Mexican consul, although we do not “know the nationalities” of the victims, was on the spot. Republican Governor of Texas Greg Abbott immediately seized on the tragedy to blame it on Democratic President Joe Biden. “These deaths are (the responsibility of) Biden. They are the result of his deadly policy of open borders, ”he attacked. Arrivals of illegal immigrants increased sharply after the election of Joe Biden, although the latter has been trying since his arrival at the White House to stem the influx of migrants by entrusting this thorny issue to its vice-president Kamala Harris. In 2017, a similar tragedy had marked the spirits: ten migrants had died in an overheated trailer parked in a parking lot near San Antonio.
