The intervention team for the brown bear of the State Nature Protection of the Slovak Republic (ŠOP SR) on Sunday (June 26) in the evening killed a problematic individual brown bear in the village of Sučany in the Martin district. Kristína Bocková, a spokeswoman for ŠOP SR, informed about it.
According to her, the bear could endanger the safety of the inhabitants by his behavior and frequent visits to Sučany and other surrounding villages in the foothills of the Malá Fatra National Park.
The intervention team of the ŠOP SR monitored the movement and behavior of the bear in the urban area of ​​the village of Sučany and in other nearby localities. A three-year-old male brown bear weighing 50 kilograms moved close to human dwellings, searching for waste from human food, regularly overturning waste containers and entering the gardens.
“When meeting a person, he showed no signs of shyness and showed low sensitivity to scaring. All methods of scaring were ineffective. His behavior was evaluated as a risk to human health and life,” said Bock.
The placement of a bear in a breeding facility was not possible in this case, it was an individual accustomed to free life in nature and it would not be possible to adapt it to artificially created conditions in captivity. They killed a bear in the Tatras. Her cubs will be watching
