The United States Supreme Court has abolished the right to abortion. Millions of women in the US will lose the opportunity to have an abortion after the court overturned the 50-year judgment in Roe v. Wade, who legalized it nationwide. Half of the states are expected to introduce new restrictions or bans. The court overturned the landmark decision a few weeks after the leaked document indicated that its judges were in favor of the possibility. Thirteen states have already passed laws that will automatically outlaw abortions following a Supreme Court decision. Many more are likely to come with new restrictions. According to research by Planned Parenthood, a medical organization that performs abortions, approximately 36 million women of childbearing age are expected to lose access to abortion. (bbc)
