By La Provence (with AFP) A crèche employee in Lyon was indicted on Friday, suspected of having killed an 11-month-old girl after having made her “ingest a caustic product” because she could not bear her crying, announced the Lyon public prosecutor’s office. The child had been found “unconscious” by the firefighters in this nursery in the 3rd arrondissement on Wednesday morning, before dying in the hospital where she had been transported. Questioned in custody by the police, “the only employee of the nursery present at the time of the facts” admitted “finally, that exceeded by the cries of the child, she had sprinkled him then had made him ingest a caustic product”, relates the prosecution in a press release. His first hearings had not made it possible to “corroborate the accidental thesis”. According to Le Progrès, the product in question would be Destop, a powerful liquid unblocker. The employee was referred Friday “with a view to her indictment” for “intentional homicide”, specified the prosecution, which requested her placement in pre-trial detention. The continuation of the investigations will have to “determine the exact circumstances” of this tragedy and “deepen the elements relating to the personality” of the employee.
