After a rainless night and once the sun returned, the third free practice session was able to take place on Saturday morning on a totally dry track in Assen (Netherlands). Under these conditions, all the favorites have improved their times and will find themselves in Q2. Aleix Espargaro was the fastest (1’32”164) on the handlebars of his Aprilia which seems very comfortable on the Assen circuit as demonstrated by Maverick Vinales, author of a very solid session , and who took 7th time, all sessions combined. Starting with two medium tyres, Fabio Quartararo chained the laps in his first run at a high pace for the race on Sunday. With the soft tire at the rear, the Niçois failed 41 thousandths from Aleix Espargaro (1’32”205) and ranks 2nd. The end of the session was marked by falls including that of Aleix Espargaro. Just before him, less than two minutes from the end, Johann Zarco also left the track at high speed, without gravity. The French driver still climbed into Q2 with the 9th time in the combined sessions. It should also be noted that Pol Espargaro, the Spanish driver from Honda, victim of three falls in Germany last weekend and injured his ribs, had to forfeit due to persistent pain.
