SNCF: call for a national strike on July 6 for wages – France Bleu

While the airline sector is also threatened by strike calls on the eve of the summer holidays, three SNCF unions are calling on railway workers to strike on July 6. “Faced with growing inflation and the absence of a general increase since 2014”, the CGT-Cheminots, SUD-Rail and CFDT unions want to mobilize all of the group’s employees, they announced in a joint press release. “The post-pandemic and geostrategic context, with the war in Ukraine, is leading to a price spike unmatched for 40 years”, worry the union signatories. “Railway workers are hard hit” and “suffer a sharp and strong decline in their purchasing power,” say the unions. On June 16, all the representative organizations made a “request for immediate consultation” on the question of wages to the president of SNCF Jean-Pierre Farandou. “The management refused to receive the trade union organizations (…) referring the exchanges to ongoing bilateral meetings”, deplores the press release. Railway workers are asking for “measures to catch up with salary inflation”, but also “a general increase in salaries and the revaluation of bonuses” or even “a revaluation of all allowances, gratuities and indemnities”. Unsa-ferroviaire has not yet joined the strike call and will give its response to its participation on June 28th.
