Source: BMW Until now, BMW has made the M3 model either as a Sedan or with a two-door body. The logical development showed that the coupe and kabria became M4 models and the M3 sedan remained alone with its number. Until now. Now comes a new model that has a station wagon body and the M3 Touring designation. It is also an alternative that many have been waiting for and that many have been demanding for several generations. I remember that such tendencies were already in the E46, in which the carmaker made at least a concept with a more practical body. The novelty is based on the latest generation of the model and will have one thing in common with the M4 convertible. It will be available exclusively with xDrive all-wheel drive. However, this simple fact also means that there will be only a more powerful drive unit on offer, the weaker one will fall out of the station wagon price lists, resp. it doesn’t even get into them. The BMW M3 Touring will have a three-liter in-line six-cylinder, which produces 375 kW (510 hp). In addition to the xDrive drive, it cooperates with the eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission. This grouping of components means that a fast station wagon reaches 100 in 3.6 seconds. In the basic version, the limiter will have a maximum speed of 250 km / h, but in the case of the M Driver’s Package alternative, the maximum will be shifted to 280 kilometers per hour. This also guarantees that the dog in the trunk will not be completely good during a sharp ride. BMW M3 Touring Source: BMW If you look at the station wagon from the front, you can see the classic new face of M-models, which may not really fit everyone, but is certainly unique and very interesting. To use the propulsion system, BMW also had to modify the rear axle, using the one specific to the M models. This is wider, which required an increase in size. This alternative is 8 cm longer and 7.5 wider than the standard 3 Series station wagon. As the station wagon body is not as rigid as the sedan body, due to the open space in the rear, BMW had to install additional reinforcements in the lower part to make the car stronger than standard. Despite the need to increase strength, the M3 Touring remains a practical vehicle. The rear seats are divided in a ratio of 40:20:40 and the basic volume of the luggage compartment is 500 liters. When they are folded down, a volume of up to 1,510 liters is created. A big advantage of the ATV will also be the possibility to switch the drive only to the rear axle. The M3 sedan actually has such a system, as well as the coupe and convertible by a number higher. In practice, this means that after switching the drive to the rear axle only, the traction control can be set in ten steps in order to be able to approach the vehicle’s limits. The new M3 station wagon will be available soon and will have a black painted roof as standard. The carmaker will produce it in a factory in Munich. It will be available soon and the price will be a bit higher than a sedan with a similar specification. In Germany, it is just under 100,000 euros. More photos in the gallery.
