Spot, a US robot dog that neutralizes unexploded mines, arrives in Ukraine

The United States will send ‘Spot’, a US Army robot dog capable of detecting unexploded mines scattered during the war and neutralizing them to Ukraine. The US magazine Foreign Policy writes, explaining that ‘Spot’ will be used by the non-profit organization Halo Trust in areas of Ukraine previously occupied by the Russian armed forces. Made by ‘Boston Dynamics’, “Spot can help drag unexploded ordnance, in particular it can move cluster bombs into pits. This allows them to be detonated safely away from civilians in batches of 50 to 100 bullets,” it reads. Trained properly, the Spot robot dog can automatically perform repetitive tasks without human intervention and assistance. It is also capable of working in trees and dense woods. Made in 2016, Spot went on sale about two years ago at a cost of just over $ 70,000. 110 centimeters long, it can move at a speed of 5.76 kilometers per hour, used in Ukraine by the Halo Trust, an NGO engaged in humanitarian demining and eliminating the threat of explosive remnants of war. The organization, currently present in the Bucha and Brovary areas with ten teams, is in charge of finding explosive objects, marking risk areas, developing maps, cleaning up objects that have not exploded in former combat zones.
