According to Le Point, the couple of Insoumis deputies Raquel Garrido and Alexis Corbière would have as a domestic worker an Algerian woman in an irregular situation. A charge they deny. While the Insoumis have long had in their project that of the regularization of undocumented migrants, Le Point reveals this Wednesday that the couple of LFI deputies, Alexis Corbière and Raquel Garrido, would employ a woman in an irregular situation. According to the weekly, a 36-year-old Algerian woman who arrived in France in 2008 on a student visa was checked by the police last month while she was walking one of the couple’s children. Still according to information from Point, the couple would have dangled him with a possible regularization of his situation, if Jean-Luc Mélenchon acceded to the Elysee or Matignon. “Everything is wrong” “I tell you to stay, you stay, if it doesn’t suit you, there are plenty in your case who want to work, but you can forget your papers”, would have written Raquel Garrido to this woman, who replies: “Excuse me ma’am. But it’s not good”. Claiming a salary, Raquel Garrido would have promised him “150 euros for the week, we will see the rest after”. “We put a roof over your head, we make you work so either you’re grateful or I’m taking someone else now stop.” In a joint press release, the deputies affirm that “everything is false” in the incriminations of the Point, which they accuse of publishing “a bunch of lies” concerning their family. They recall that the journalist behind this investigation, Aziz Zemouri, has already been convicted of defamation. They refute one by one the elements put forward by the weekly, specifying that they do not employ this woman, do not have accommodation in Paris or send their children to school there, and never have promised papers to this person. They announce that they have instructed their lawyer to “judicially respond to this attack”. According to an internal source at LFI close to the two elected officials, “they have no apartment in Paris or a child attending school in Paris”, which would make the rest of the accusations “moderately credible”. Already a deputy in 2017, Alexis Corbière had been the target of many criticisms, to be housed in an 80 square meter HLM in Paris with Raquel Garrido. Despite an unspoken rule that encourages elected officials not to live in Parisian social housing, the couple still resided there four months later. In 2018, Le Canard Enchaîné also reveals that Alexis Corbière benefited from social aid, devolved to the “very modest”, to renovate part of his apartment, to the tune of more than 12,000 euros.
