You don’t need to buy an entire electric bike to ride an e-bike. There are currently several types of modules on sale that will turn your classic bike into a full-fledged e-bike. The problem, however, is that these kits are relatively impractical and difficult to maintain. Most kits are not easily removable from the bike, they require a lot of cables, a battery, a wheel change, but also a lot of other accessories. However, all this should be changed by a new unit designed by the British start-up Skarper. NewAtlas and Bikeradar drew attention to this topic. Conversion of a bicycle to an electric bicycleCurrent kits used to convert a bicycle into an electric bicycle usually include the possibility of exchanging the rear wheel for a set with a rear motor or a set with a central motor. Here and there you will find an additional module, which is mounted on the part of the bicycle above the rear tire. However, the new Skarper system is different in this respect. According to the company, the entire device, which was named DiskDrive, simply “snaps” onto the chain stay right next to the bicycle cassette and transfers energy through the rear brake disc. A fully charged battery is enough to cover 60 km and the device provides a maximum speed of 25 km / h (applies to the EU) or 32 km / h (applies to the USA). It is also worth noting that the main investors include Sir Christopher Andrew Hoy, who is the most successful cyclist in Olympic history with six gold medals. According to the first reviews, DiskDrive looks really promising, while the whole initial installation took only a few minutes. Skarper is also reportedly working on a mobile application that will allow the owners of this kit to fine-tune the system.
