Covid Iran, there is “one death every two minutes”

In Iran “every two seconds a person is infected” due to the Covid pandemic and “almost every two minutes a person dies from the coronavirus”. These are the words used by Iranian state TV, as Asharq Al-Awsat tells us, on the day when the Islamic Republic, in the midst of the “fifth wave” of infections, reported another 588 deaths attributable to Covid. There have never been so many since the start of the pandemic, as the Tasnim agency pointed out. The health ministry also confirmed 40,808 new infections, another worrying record for the country. Since the beginning of the pandemic, official data from Iran speak of 4,199,537 cases of Covid-19 confirmed with 94,603 deaths.
