Reached by telephone, Thierry Granturco, mayor of the town is still in shock: “We had a weather alert for the night but nothing hinted at what happened. The report shows one dead, a kitesurfer who was lifted by the force of the wind and who violently hit the restaurant La Digue and at least five injured on the terrace of the casino where everything was shattered”. At the time when the gale arrived, 8:35 p.m., many people were still present on the beach. Some were even bathing. As for the terraces of the restaurants located on the seawall, they were crowded. Garbage cans, beach chairs, parasols… everything flew away. “When the wind picked up, we arrived at our car.
