The flag hoisted at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris
The Olympic flag was then hoisted at the end of the afternoon at the Hôtel de Ville in Paris.
Paris will become the second city after London to host the Olympic Games for the third time. The year 2024 will mark the hundredth anniversary of the last Games held in the capital, in 1924.
Paris wants to organize the opening ceremony of the Games along the Seine in order to guarantee the widest possible access to the public. It would be the first time that the ceremony was not organized in an Olympic stadium.
Organizers promise a limited carbon footprint by planning to halve Games-related emissions and offsetting more carbon dioxide than the event will produce.
The organization of the 2024 Olympic Games should cost 3.9 billion euros, according to the official Paris 2024 website.
