The Bory-Hansgrohe rider triumphed on the 190.1 km route from Ambri to Novazzano ahead of American Neilson Powless. At the same time, Vlasov stripped of his yellow jersey for overall leader Steve Steve Williams. The Danish Jakob Fuglsang finished third, the Slovak representative Peter Sagan did not fight for the top positions. Before the start of the stage, the Dutch Jumbo-Visma team withdrew from the race due to a coronavirus outbreak. The British Adam Yates from Ineos could not continue due to a positive test on Covid-19. At the head of the stage with a wavy profile, a leading five-member group was formed, consisting of Johan Jacobs (Movistar), Alexander Kamp (Trek-Segafredo), Silvan Dillier (Alpecin-Fenix), Anthony Turgis (TotalEnergies) and Claudio Imhof (Swiss Cycling). The leak gradually developed an almost six-minute lead. During the first pass to Novazzan 55 km before the finish, only Dillier and Kamp drove ahead, the peloton lost two and a half minutes on them. Dillier disengaged from his colleague from the escape, but less than 15 km before the finish line, the package of favorites for the stage triumph engulfed him. In the final spurt of the five-member group, Vlasov prevailed, who is six seconds ahead of Fuglsang in the overall standings.
