Four people died on Thursday (June 16) in a fire in an apartment building in the largest housing estate in Handlová. Dozens more had to evacuate. The block of flats is currently being strapped and guarded by police. One of the inhabitants told us what could have been the cause of the deadly fire. It’s said to be a lighted candle. “A neighbor on the fifth floor apparently fell asleep by a lighted candle and a fire broke out. We heard something like that. She slipped out, knocking neighbors on the door to call the fire department. She could not get to her apartment, there was a dog left, “said the apartment’s resident, adding that this woman is OK. One married couple, who allegedly slept the whole fire in a block of flats, can speak of the miracle. They woke up around six o’clock in the morning and apparently had no idea what was going on. Police and firefighters sent all the people by the tapes on Thursday morning because the gas could be smelled. Many have managed to bring out at least a few things, including the cot.
