The American giant McDonald’s agreed, Thursday, June 16, to pay 1.25 billion euros in France to avoid prosecution for tax evasion. “This agreement puts an end to a tax dispute and a judicial investigation without admission of fault”, writes the French branch of the company, adding to work with the administration on its tax scheme. The fast food group has been in the crosshairs of the tax authorities since 2014. It is suspected of having artificially reduced its profits in France from 2009, by means of royalties for the operation of the McDonald’s brand paid to its European parent company , based in Luxembourg. The president of the Paris court on Thursday validated an agreement which provides for the payment of a public interest fine of 508 million euros. McDonald’s had also approved in May the payment of 737 million euros to the administration, to settle its corporate tax evaded by its tax evasion scheme. By agreeing to sign this legal agreement in the public interest (Cjip), concluded with the National Financial Prosecutor’s Office (PNF), the most important in France to date in terms of tax evasion, the McDonald’s group thus avoids a lawsuit in France and pays his dispute with both the tax administration and the public prosecutor.
