Strike of magistrates in Tunisia: “Exposing the private life of women, is it worthy of the president?”

A hundred judges, lawyers and members of associations demonstrated on Wednesday June 8 in front of the Tunis court to denounce the treatment inflicted on two magistrates dismissed by President Kaïs Saïed and accused of insulting morals. The latter dismissed 57 judges in accusing them of corruption and obstructing investigations, after strengthening its supervision of the judicial system, leading to a week-long strike by magistrates which started on Monday June 6. “We are here to protest against the instrumentalization of women, their private life and their bodies in political stories”, explains one of the demonstrators at the microphone of France24. The strike must continue until Friday, but the showdown with the president is likely to last.
