Enormous fuel prices can be even higher. In Slovakia, they will be particularly negatively affected by the EU sanctions package it has imposed on Russia, as it directly affects Slovnaft. Politicians now say that the price of gasoline per liter can rise to two euros thirty cents. The analyst does not rule it out. The whole debate over Slovnaft has a strong political undertone. It takes place in a relentless dispute between Igor Matovič et al. with Richard Sulík. Regardless of who and at all failed to negotiate sanctions on Russian oil, each side admits that fuel prices will certainly go up. “Either they will close the factory or we will refuel for 2.2 to 2.3 euros per liter,” said OĽANO MP Gyimesi György, who sharply criticized the SaS chairman and the economy minister for saying that he had only “secured” the eighteen-month exemption in Brussels. . Boris Kollár, chairman of the Sme family coalition, also joined the criticism. Nor does he like the fact that the conditions negotiated will have a direct impact on motorists’ wallets. “This was not a happy solution for what we did, and our people will pay for it when the price of petrol and diesel rises well above two euros,” Kollár said. Sulík also talks about rising prices, but for another reason Sulík himself, who rejects the failure at Slovnaft, does not rule out that prices will move upwards. “I can’t say how prices and diesel will develop,” he replied briefly. However, he subsequently said that a bigger problem than the situation around Slovnaft is the embargo on crude Russian oil. As long as Europe can produce enough petrol, huge quantities of diesel are flowing from the east. “Crude oil is also imported from Russia, and when the import ban is banned, yes, prices will go up,” Sulík said. “With the same demand, supply will be reduced,” he added. Prices can easily rise well above two euros Analyst also thinks that the EU’s sanctions package against Russia will affect petrol and diesel prices. “It is possible. If oil prices rise even more and demand for fuels is high, the price of petrol can reach 2.30 euros per liter, “explained František Burda, an analyst at FinGO.sk. The question is how it is possible to predict a specific amount in advance, as the exemption for Slovnaft will not end until a few months later, and until then, conditions on world markets will change many times in these turbulent times. “We know how Slovnaft is doing now and what its costs and expenses are. They also probably already know how much it will cost them to invest in new oil refining technology. Subsequently, we theoretically can estimate a specific amount in advance, “said Burda. The coalition also wants to reduce prices, but so far only argues. On the other hand, the Slovak government is considering how to reduce the price of fuel. So far, this is about political obstacles. The cabinet has so far approved additional taxation of cheap Russian oil, but without the consent of the coalition SaS. The vote in parliament will be important now. They postponed this until the June meeting because Richard Sulík wants to compensate for the reduction in VAT from 20 to 8 percent for the money collected. In practice, this would mean an immediate drop in prices of almost 20 cents. Most recently, Germans and Czechs have temporarily reduced excise taxes in our region. And now they refuel cheaper than Slovak motorists.
