You may have recently noticed that there is something going on with the offer of Mitsubishi cars and it is not pleasant. The changes brought by the new emission standards are also forcing a brand like Mitsubishi to develop new cars. However, as Mitsubishi does not have the resources to develop extremely fuel-efficient engines that can only be used in Europe, it has decided to pack up in the EU, leaving only the remnants of its former fleet. But even though the brand from the offices in Japan did not like it, customers in Europe still like it and, together with individual importers and dealers, put so much pressure on the carmaker that it simply did not resist and still expand its model portfolio to more than two models. In the first step comes the strong name ASX. The rest of the generation has attracted Europeans to combine a two-liter naturally aspirated engine with a five-speed transmission, but that’s a thing of the past. The new ASX will emerge from the alliance’s cooperation and will use the CMF-B platform, on which the Renault Clio and Captur, for example, stand. And Captur is the organ donor that will transform into a new compact crossover from Mitsubishi. It will not rely on all-wheel drive, but will come up with a new 1.0-liter engine, which the brand referred to as the 1.0 MPi-T. Customers of the new Dacia models already know the three-cylinder with multi-point injection and the ASX will have it as the basic engine. To this is added a four-cylinder direct injection heart marked 1.3 DI-T. The basic engine will offer 91 hp and a manual 6-speed transmission, the four-cylinder will have a manual (140 hp) and also a 7-speed dual clutch (158 hp). To these will be added a hybrid model with a four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 1.6 liters and a multi-mode automatic transmission with two electric motors and a total system output of 145 hp, which will store the electricity obtained exclusively while driving up to 1.3 kWh of battery. And the finale consists of a plug-in hybrid with an output of 160 kas and a battery with a capacity of 10.5 kWh. It will thus have the same engine range as the current Renault Captur model, with the Captur eventually switching to improved units similar to the Austral, and we will see how fast the ASX will switch to them. What is certain is that engines that have been pacing the streets for a few years are a better choice for the customer than brand new units. ASX will be unveiled in September, the first cars to hit the market next spring.
