I often come across the opinion that an electric car is practically useless and completely meaningless for the inhabitants of a block of flats. I admit, using an electric car without the possibility of home charging is much more demanding, but definitely not impossible. The result of this comprehensive view is that even a person with a weekly drive of around 1,000 km can easily work with an electric car that he uses as a primary car. The cost of driving was incomparably lower than if I drove an incinerator. However, cheap domestic charging and a suitable selection of a monthly flat rate from a public provider played a large part in this. On average, twice a week I complete a route just over 300 km long and I drive about 200 to 300 km over the weekend. Almost immediately from the first days, I felt a certain discomfort associated with the fact that I had to charge the electric car much more often than when I could charge it during the night at home. It took me a while to enjoy the system that I have to connect the electric car to the charger whenever I have the opportunity. Next, I had to look more for places where I can charge while parking. During various meetings or purchases, I therefore looked for parking lots with chargers. Even so, I did not avoid situations where I had to “go charging” with the car, ie go with it somewhere primarily for charging. I used the cheapest AC charging only when I had the car sufficiently charged and it was enough for me to “suck” a few kWh of energy during an hour’s purchase. Using an 11 kW on-board AC charger, it would take more than 6.5 hours to fully charge a 77 kWh battery. I charge about 14% in one hour, so I used charging to “maintain” a state of charge of about 80%. In the vicinity of the residence, I drive about 100 km in a week. With a consumption of 22 kWh / 100 km, I drive € 4.4. During two weekly trips to the capital, I usually have time to charge the car on 50 kW chargers, where 1 kWh costs exactly € 0.35. On such a day, I consume 66 kWh of energy, so I pay € 23.10 for charging. If I go like this twice a week, it costs me € 46.20. As a rule, I also recharge weekend rides at the level of 200 km on stands with an output of up to 100 kW, where the price is 0.35 € / 1 kWh. Recharging 44 kWh of energy costs me € 14.40. One week of charging exclusively on public paid chargers therefore costs me € 65. In four weeks, this is based on a not very attractive € 260, to which it is still necessary to add € 30 for the monthly fee for the Energia MAX flat rate. The final amount is € 290. GreenWay However, within the Energia MAX package, the user has 100 kWh of free energy to charge. If I missed all 100 kWh on the cheapest charge up to 25 kW, the price for the month would drop by € 20. In the final, I got to the sum of 270 € per month. € / liter and an average consumption of 4.8 l / 100 km would cost 4,000 km more than 340 euros. Even when using only public charging, I can drive an electric car cheaper than with an incinerator. However, the savings are no longer so significant and we cannot talk about any return on the purchase price difference in this case. It’s also cheaper. I must point out that I describe above the worst case scenario that can be charged with an electric car. This means that I practically do not use the cheapest AC charging as much as possible and I am not looking for free chargers at all, which can also significantly reduce monthly driving costs. If I had this option, the experience of using it would be practically the same as if I could charge the car at home. During work, the battery would be recharged and the electric car would be ready to travel at least 350 km on the highway. , the electric car will be more advantageous even in such a critical case, which I describe above.
