In an interview with CNN, 11-year-old Miah Cerrillo recounts how she went into “survival mode” when 18-year-old gunman Salvador Ramos started targeting classmates. While watching “Lilo and Stitch” with other students and two teachers, Salvador Ramos enters the establishment. “It all happened so fast. He pulled the teacher back into the classroom. He made eye contact with her again, looked her straight in the eye and said ‘goodnight’, then shot her and killed her,” CNN explains. She uses the blood of a friend. At that moment, the heavily armed high school student shoots the second teacher and opens fire on other students. Miah is hit by a bullet fragment in the shoulder and in the head. The teenager then walks to an adjacent classroom and shoots again. He broadcasts “sad music on loudspeaker” says Miah. The little girl who is still conscious shows immense composure. Without hesitation, she covers her body with the blood of one of her comrades. Then lays on top of her so that Salvador Ramos thinks they were both dead. With the help of a friend, she manages to recover the phone from the body of a teacher to warn the emergency services: “Come, please… we have a problem”. The latter tells the channel that she still does not understand why the police did not come to save her. After the tragedy, questions about the response time of the first agents to arrive on the scene are the subject of lively controversy. Still crying in front of the CNN camera, Miah explains that she “wanted people to know what happened in that classroom.” According to his family, tufts of hair have been falling out of his head ever since. His parents launched an online kitty to pay for therapy. “She will need a lot of help with all the trauma she is going through,” explains her mother, who needs donations to finance the medical expenses related to the bullet fragments. Over $370,000 has already been raised.
