125 years of Dracula, record gathering of ‘vampires’ in GB

The 1,369 ‘vampires’ who gathered in Whitby, Yorkshire in England, to celebrate 125 years since the release of Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ have earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records. A world record for the largest crowd of ‘vampires’, the organizers of English Heritage claim. The previous record dates back to 2011, when 1,039 people with sharp canines and long black coats gathered in the US state of Virginia. The requirements for setting the new record were wearing black shoes, black trousers or clothes, a vest, shirt, black cloak or “overcoat with a collar” and, of course, pointed canines. ‘Dracula’ was first published in 1897, seven years after Stoker had visited the quaint seaside town of Whitby in northern England and drew inspiration from its 11th-century Gothic abbey.
