AS Roma won the first edition of the Europa Conference League by winning the final against Feyenoord (1-0) on Wednesday. European Cup specialist, Jos Mourinho offers his first European major crown to the Italian club. The joy of Smalling and striker ZanioloIt’s done, the supporters of AS Rome can finally celebrate a European crown for their team! The Italian club won its first major continental trophy (it had only won an Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1961) by winning against Feyenoord (1-0) this Wednesday in the final of the first edition of the Europa League Conference. After two lost finals, against Liverpool in C1 in 1984 then Inter Milan in C3 in 1991, the Giallorossi triumphed thanks to specialist Jos Mourinho, who gave Italian football its first club title since 2010. It was in Champions League, with a trophy won by Inter Milan from… Mourinho. Who becomes the first coach to win all the European Cups! Zaniolo releases Roma Jostled by the Dutch pressing during the first five minutes, Roma quickly knew how to respond tactically to calm their opponent and put an end to their offensive ambitions. Consequences, the two teams did not offer much then for half an hour. The Louve club created some interesting opportunities, on a subtle pass from Pellegrini (24th) then a header from Abraham (26th), but the ball never ideally arrived at the feet of a Roman striker . Tactically superior and a little better in the game over the minutes, the Giallorossi of Jos Mourinho finally found the fault just after half an hour of play. Zaniolo took advantage of a lack of intervention from Trauner, on a long ball from Mancini, to go beat Bijlow with a left sting (1-0, 32nd)! Realistically, Roma then resisted quite calmly in the face of the timid revolt of the Dutch. Feyenoord had missed out on his first half. The Dutch rediscovered their all-terrain pressing, their ardor and this vertical game which had allowed them to reach this final. Saved by his post then vigilant on shots from Til (47th) and Malacia (51st), Rui Patricio had had more work in six minutes than during the entire first period. Despite the pressure from the opposition, Roma resisted. The last quarter of an hour was all about attack and defense. Roma were no longer looking to attack and were content to repel the incessant onslaught of Feyenoord. As the end approached, Bijlow fended off a shot from Pellegrini in front of his line to keep his team alive (86th), but the Dutch players ultimately no longer had the resources to come back to score before the final whistle. At the end of their tether, the Romans could savor the night in Tirana. Score of the match: 6/10 A firm and disappointing first period until Roma opened the scoring. This final finally really started after the break with the awakening of Feyenoord who jostled his opponent to try to come back to the score. A rather pleasant meeting. The goal: – Mancini sends a long ball towards the Dutch surface. Trauner misses his intervention with the head and the ball arrives on the chest of Zaniolo, who controls and beats the goalkeeper with a dive from the left (1-0, 32nd). each player. The man of the match: Chris Smalling (8/10) The central defender of AS Rome was monstrous in this final! A true boss of the defense, the Englishman won all his duels and repelled the danger many times in his area. He was simply impassable tonight! AS ROME: Rui Patrcio (7): the Roma goalkeeper was decisive in this final. If he was little used in the first period, then saved by his post on a ball taken over by Trauner just after the break, the Portuguese responds present with important saves on a shot from Til (47th) and a heavy strike from Malacia ( 51st). Chris Smalling (8): read the comment above. Ibaez (7): the left axial defender was not as prominent as his two defense partners, but he did the job behind. Present in duels and clean in recovery, he makes a good copy. Gianluca Mancini (7.5): the central defender delivered a high level performance. A real rock in the heart of the first period, where his authority did good. His long game too, the image of his pass to Zaniolo on the opening of the Roman score (32nd). He was very busy in the second half, but he still answered present and can be proud of his final (10 duels won out of 12). Bryan Cristante (6): the midfielder has not deserved. He worked in the shadows to cut the passing lines and fill all the spaces in the midfield. A game of duty. Rick Karsdorp (5.5): rather shy offensively, with a tendency to play backwards, the right piston focused on his defensive work. And he did it rather well, especially to help his team repel the opposing waves in the second period. Replaced in the 89th by Matas Via (not rated). Henrikh Mkhitaryan (not rated): back from injury for this final, the Roma midfielder was betrayed by his body after only a quarter of an hour of play. , he was replaced in 17th by Sergio Oliveira (5), who had a fairly neutral match. But he made the effort, like all his teammates, to resist the Dutch pressure in the second period. Lorenzo Pellegrini (6): the captain of Roma was really interesting. Very available, he was the custodian of his team’s play in the first period. His little exterior for Zaniolo could have turned into a decisive pass (24th). He was not decisive in this final but his activity was precious. Nicola Zalewski (5.5): the Polish left piston was a little more forward than Karsdorp. He therefore proposed a little more offensively, while sometimes leaving spaces behind his back. Replaced the 66th by Leonardo Spinazzola (not not). Nicol Zaniolo (7): he will remain the only scorer in this final and the player who offered his first major European title to Roma. Little found at the start of the match, he took advantage of an error from Trauner to score on his first opportunity with a nice dive. Replaced in the 66th by Jordan Veretout (not noted), whose strike is repelled by Bijlow (73rd). Tammy Abraham (5): he was little found by his teammates, but he exploited his rare balloons rather well. Like a good cross on a counter-attack, a full axis acceleration which caused Trauner’s yellow card or even his delivery of the head which Pellegrini did not take advantage of. No goal, but a permanent danger. Replaced the 89th by Eldor Shomurodov (not noted). FEYENOORD ROTTERDAM: Justin Bijlow (6): ultimately not very much in demand, the Feyenoord goalkeeper had to bow to Zaniolo in the first period (32nd). He is then decisive on shots from Veretout (73′) and Pellegrini (86′). Despite 92 balls hit, he barely centered or found his partners in the Roman area. Gernot Trauner (3): the central defender will not have good memories of this final. Warned in the 25th minute for a foul on Abraham in midfield, he was then at fault on the opener: he misjudged the trajectory of the ball and his header missed Zaniolo behind his back. Replaced in the 74th by Marcus Pedersen (not rated). Marcos Senesi (6): he was solid defensively with 8 duels won (out of 12), but he miraculously escaped a red card in the second period for a foul on Abraham in a position of last defender who was, strangely, not sanctioned by the referee or the VAR. Tyrell Malacia (6): rather discreet in the first period, the left side woke up after the break. He provoked a lot on his side in the second period and delivered several dangerous crosses. His performance did not escape OL, who are interested in him. Replaced in the 89th by Alireza Jahanbakhsh (not rated). Fredrik Aursnes (5): present in recovery and precise in his transmissions, the midfielder delivered a correct final. Orkun Kk (5): we expected more from the Feyenoord n10 in this final. Apart from a rat shot (18th) and a floating shot captured by Rui Patricio (41st), he did not bring much danger to the opposing goal. Positioned too low in the first period, he moved higher after the break to support his team’s offensives. Replaced the 88th by Patrick Walemark (not not). Reiss Nelson (4): a fairly discreet match offensively. The striker on loan from Arsenal made little difference up front, he mostly worked defensively. Which is not his role. Replaced the 74th by Bryan Linssen (not noted), who wasted an opportunity in stoppage time by missing the ball at the far post. Guus Til (4): the Dutch attacking midfielder was not level in this final. Quite inconspicuous in the first period, where his initiatives were often very quickly aborted. A shot captured by Rui Patricio (47th). Replaced in the 59th by Jens Toornstra (not rated). Luis Sinisterra (5): the Feyenoord winger started his match well, placing a few accelerations on his left side, then he gradually disappeared until the break. But he came back well in the second period, his association with Malacia posed problems for Roma. Cyriel Dessers (3): one of the great disappointments of this final. Muzzled by the Roman defence, the Feyenoord striker got annoyed and he gradually got out of his match in the first period. He returned to the field with a different state of mind after the break, but he was never able to score this evening.+ Find the results and the Conference League standings on Maxifoot And for you, what did you t the best and worst players in the game?
