War crimes Ukraine, Russian soldier pleaded guilty

-

Sergeant Vadim Shysimarin, the first Russian soldier to trial in Ukraine for war crimes, pleaded guilty. The BBC reports that Shishimarin, 21, is accused of shooting an unarmed 62-year-old civilian and faces life imprisonment. The alleged murder of the soldier would have occurred with a blow to the head, in the days following the beginning of the Russian invasion. Kiev’s chief prosecutor is increasingly investigating allegations that Russian troops have killed, tortured and ill-treated Ukrainian civilians. Attorney General Iryna Venediktova’s office said it is investigating more than 10,700 potential war crimes involving more than 600 suspects.
