Bogotá Mayor’s Office suspends public entry to stadiums after riots in El Campín

(CNN Spanish) – The mayor of Bogotá, Claudia López, reported that “the entry of the public to the stadiums is suspended” and the Major Division of Colombian Soccer is summoned “and other members of the soccer security table to apply the most severe sanctions “.

The measure is taken after the riots that took place this Tuesday at the El Campín stadium in Bogotá between fans of the Nacional and Santa Fe teams, of Colombia’s first soccer division. López described the events as unacceptable.

The mayor did not specify the duration of the suspension, but regretted that this occurred after the entrance was not enabled due to the covid-19 pandemic and it was eagerly awaited “to enjoy the culture of sports,” he said.

In videos shared by fans on social networks, incidents are observed in the stands. It is also seen how the fans invade the field of play. Some fans were injured when objects were thrown, including signs and other elements of the stadium.

According to the mayor herself, 3 injured were treated at the hospital. Another 3 people were captured, allegedly involved in the attacks.
