DECRYPTION – Russian errors and Ukrainian successes are a source of inspiration for French military experts. The war is not over, but it is already time to draw some lessons from it. “These first weeks of confrontation have already delivered many lessons”, wrote the Chief of the Defense Staff, General Burkhard in an “Agenda”, a letter addressed to all the soldiers, dated April 22. The highest ranking officer of the institution underlines three requirements: the need for “training” in high-intensity warfare, the need to cultivate “moral forces” to stand up to threats, and finally the “duty of truth”. “The duty of a soldier, whether chief or subordinate – because we are always one and the other – is to tell the truth; say things, without trying to embellish the situation, out of fear, flattery or intellectual laziness. In front of the leaders, it consists in presenting, in all frankness, the limits and the weaknesses which can be ours. It involves, of course, proposing solutions.
