MARKET POINT-Rise in sight in Europe before ending a turbulent week

(Updated with futures contract on the CAC 40, closing in Tokyo, opening of the bond market in Europe) * The main European indices expected to increase significantly * Hope for the gradual lifting of health restrictions in Shanghai * Wall Street finished above PARIS, May 13 (Reuters) – The main European stock markets are expected to rise on Friday at the start of the last session of a week marked by high volatility, between inflationary surges and fears of recession, two factors which continue to influence the trend on all the world markets. Index futures suggest a rise of 1.11% for the CAC 40 .FCHI in Paris, 0.53% for the Dax .GDAXI in Frankfurt, 0.83% for the FTSE 100 .FTSE in London and 0.72% for the EuroStoxx 50 .STOXX50E . This rebound could be based in particular on the announcement by the Shanghai authorities of the start of an easing of health restrictions in the coming days. nL5N2X5171 The broad European Stoxx 600 index .STOXX having lost 1.28% over the first four sessions of the week and the CAC 40 0.83%, this Friday’s session will decide whether they record another negative weekly performance (which would be the fifth in a row for the Stoxx 600 and the third for the CAC) or if they manage to end the week on a positive note. The fact that on Wall Street, the Standard & Poor’s 500 ended Thursday well above its session low, which marked its lowest level in almost 15 months, should support a renewed appetite for risk. . However, investors are very far from having relegated to the background concerns linked to the rise in interest rates and their impact on economic activity and on the results of listed companies, illustrated on Thursday by the unconvincing slowdown US producer prices, the contraction of British gross domestic product (GDP) in March and Nissan’s warning of stagnant profits this year. In an interview with Marketplace, Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, whose Senate on Thursday approved a reappointment as head of the central bank, said the fight against inflation would not be painless but leaving prices skidding would be even worse. The upcoming session will be animated, among other things, by the first estimate of the confidence index from the University of Michigan, which will give new indications on the impact of soaring prices on household morale in the United States.
