Yves Chatain, soon to be 57, is accused of “kidnapping”, “forcible confinement” and “murder”, facts which he admitted during his hearing by the investigators. He met Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti when she was 21. How does Yves Chatain explain his gesture? He tells the police that the latter had left his car badly parked in front of his house, which annoyed him. An argument broke out between them. The young woman would have followed him home to ask him to apologize and that is where he would have strangled her. When he was only 14 years old, Yves Chatain assaulted a young woman on a bicycle. Six years later, at the age of 20, he attempted to strangle a motorist, just one year before the murder of Marie-Thérèse Bonfanti in Pontcharra. These other unsolved cases The mystery persists. In the Pontcharra sector, in 1981, the body of Liliane Chevènement was found, strangled with wire. In 1984, two Belgian hitchhikers disappeared 20 km from Pontcharra and in 1985, Marie-Ange Billoud, disappeared while hitchhiking outside Pontcharra. What if Yves Chatain was involved? For Philippe Folletet, former police commissioner and member of an association for the search for missing persons, mobilized on the Bonfanti file, it is a real possibility: “The investigative work that we have carried out convinces us that it must be a much higher number of cases”, he told our colleagues at RTL.
