War in Ukraine: the chilling images of two Russian soldiers filmed killing two civilians ukrainia

On Thursday, May 12, the UN adopted a resolution calling on the United Nations International Commission on Ukraine to carry out an “investigation” into the serious human rights violations committed in the regions of kyiv, Cherniguiv, Kharkiv and Sumy in late February and March 2022, “with a view to holding those responsible to account”. The images, authenticated by the American news channel CNN, are chilling. We see two Russian soldiers shoot two unarmed Ukrainian civilians with several bullets. This video, which dates from March 16, when the fighting was raging, is taken from the surveillance cameras of a car dealership in the suburbs of kyiv, which was then looted by these soldiers. The American media has managed to identify the Ukrainian victims: they are the owner of the concession – his family did not wish to publish his name -, and Leonid Oleksiyovych Plyats, a 68-year-old grandfather who was employed as guard. In the various shots analyzed by the American channel, we see five Russian soldiers approaching the car dealership, trying to enter it by pulling on the locks with their guns and breaking windows. That’s when the two civilians approach, hands in the air. The men appear to be having a conversation among themselves, then the Ukrainian civilians turn and walk away from the Russian soldiers towards the guard post. That’s when two of the soldiers shoot at them. “Executioners” Questioned by CNN, the daughter of one of the two civilians killed described the Russians as “executioners”: “It’s awful because my father was a civilian, he was 68 years old, he was a peaceful man who was unarmed. As our colleagues from CNN tell, Leonid Oleksiyovych Plyats tried to survive. He was not killed immediately by Russian bullets. CCTV footage shows him trying to get a tourniquet, then calling for help. Ukrainian civilians and fighters come to his aid, but the time to evacuate him from the compound, the grandfather succumbs to his injuries and dies. His daughter told CNN that she hopes her father’s alleged killers will be tried: “I hope this will be tried by an international court and that Ukraine, but also the whole world, will know about these crimes.”
