Storms may occur throughout Slovakia on Friday (May 6). The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ) informs about it on its website, stating that it issued first-degree warnings against storms. Alerts are valid on Fridays from 10:00 to 22:00. In several districts, there is an increased likelihood of hail storms, which pose a potential danger to human activities. According to meteorologists, short-term but intense downpours can be associated with storms, during which the totals can reach 20 – 40 millimeters and wind gusts at a speed of 65 to 85 kilometers per hour. “During the mentioned storms, a temporary rise in water levels on small streams and the occurrence of flood phenomena outside the streams (run-off of water from slopes, mudslides, flooding of cellars, underpasses, underpasses) is possible,” the SHMÚ concluded.
