The fate of Robert Fico is decided: Did parliament agree to the release of the head of Smer into custody? – New time

In Wednesday’s vote, the deputies of the National Council (NR) of the Slovak Republic did not approve the request of the General Prosecutor’s Office (GP) of the Slovak Republic to take MP Robert Fico (Smer-SD) into custody. Of the 150 deputies present, 74 voted in favor, 49 were against, 19 abstained and eight did not vote. All of the SaS deputies, as well as most of the OĽANO deputies, were responsible for taking Fico into custody, with the exception of Romana Tabák, who did not vote, and Katarína Hatráková, who abstained. Members of the We Are Family movement also abstained. Deputies from the People’s Party were in favor. Members of the Smer-SD club, as well as non-attached deputies working in the non-parliamentary Voice-SD, voted against the release of Fica. Non-attached Members from ĽSNS did not vote. A possible detention of a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic would be possible only with the consent of the parliament and a court decision. Fica accused the National Criminal Agency (NAKA) of the Twilight event together with the former Minister of the Interior, Robert Kaliňák. They are accused of the crime of setting up, conspiring and supporting a criminal group, of the misuse of power by a public official, as well as of the repeated crime of endangering trade, banking, postal, telecommunications and tax secrets. The case also accused Nitra businessman Norbert B. and police ex-president Tibor G. The parliament discussed the prosecutor’s request for several days, and debates began last week. Smer-SD sees no reason to prosecute its leader. The opposition continues to talk about the abuse of criminal law in the political struggle. Representatives of the coalition reiterated that the court should decide, and not the plenary of the National Council of the Slovak Republic, they spoke of the extradition of Fico into the hands of justice.
