Russia’s intelligence chief Sergei Naryshkin accused the United States and Poland on Thursday of planning to gain sphere of influence in Ukraine. It is Moscow’s strongest signal so far that the war could end in the forced division of Ukraine between the West and Russia. The information was provided by the Reuters news agency. The head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Naryshkin, referred to unpublished intelligence, which he said showed that the United States and Poland, NATO allies, were planning to restore Poland’s control over part of western Ukraine. “According to intelligence obtained by the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Russian Federation, Washington and Warsaw are drawing up plans to establish strict military and political control of Poland over its historical states in Ukraine,” Naryshkin said in a rare statement published by the intelligence service. One of Ukraine’s strongest supporters, Poland has ruled some territories in Ukraine in the past at various times, most recently between the two world wars.
