The impasse Nela lived a happy life until she was 26 years old, she was engaged and she started her career. At the end of November 2017, however, everything changed. Neighbor Jiří Meindl rang her on the door that day, saying that he was returning the borrowed money as a friend. If Nela hadn’t opened the door for him, nothing might have happened. “Within a second, he was behind my back and I had a 21-inch kitchen knife under my neck,” she described the moments of horror at the time. But she knew it wouldn’t just be about that. “I knew, I knew deep down what exactly was going to happen when the door to his apartment closed. My knees were bucking, but he pushed me hard.” Meindl almost killed her to death. She did not even imagine what followed in her scariest thoughts. “When he raped me with his fist in both intimate holes, where I also had cuts with a knife, when he beat me and strangled my head, I kept saying ‘No, you can’t … you can’t leave yet, you haven’t done everything here yet you need, “she described the disgusting and brutal ways of the attacker. Nela fought a lot and managed to survive this act. Investigation Following police intervention, Meindl was arrested and sentenced to twenty years in prison. In addition, he had to pay compensation to the victim in the amount of 1.5 million crowns (approximately 61,500 euros), but he did not work in prison, so he did not pay anything. The rape left the young woman not only physically but also mentally wounded. She even tried to commit suicide. “In 2019, things got so bad that I jumped from the fourth floor in December. I didn’t know what else to do, to whom to entrust myself, how to help, even though I tried and I did everything for it,” she explained. She escaped death by a hair again. She ended up with torn internal organs, major bleeding in the abdomen, a broken spine in two places, and a crushed pelvis. She spent a year in the hospital, knowing she would never walk again. One day, she decided to write a book about it because she wanted to share her story and help others in a similar situation. She wanted to live again and fulfill her dreams. Nela tried to win the battle with the demons and bounce off the bottom. A charity fundraiser was even organized for her, to which the public contributed almost three million crowns (123 thousand euros). Although she got up over time and started working as a photographer, she was still in a lot of pain. She allegedly underwent a leg amputation last week. However, two days after the operation, she succumbed to blood poisoning.
