War in Ukraine: France to deliver “Caesar” guns to Ukrainian forces – The Independent

France will deliver artillery pieces to Ukraine. Emmanuel Macron announced it in an interview he gave to Ouest-France published this Friday morning. The Head of State told our colleagues from Ouest-France that “everyone takes their responsibilities with their political balances, and I do not interfere in the political life of each other. We are very coordinated. I spoke the day before yesterday to Chancellor Scholz on this subject. We still deliver substantial equipment, from Milan to Caesars and several types of weapons. I think we must continue on this path. Always with a red line, which is not to enter into co-belligerence”. According to French sources, relayed by Ouest France, 12 Caesar guns will be taken from the Army park and will be transported to Ukraine for the benefit of government forces. The French Caesar is an all-terrain truck equipped with a 155 mm gun, capable of hitting a target 40 km away with excellent accuracy. It is manufactured by Nexter and has been exported to seven countries including Saudi Arabia, Denmark and the Czech Republic. Since 2008, 77 Caesars have equipped French artillery units, including the 11th RAMa at La Lande d’Ouée, near Rennes. These guns have been deployed by France in Afghanistan, Iraq and the Sahel. “Delivery to the Ukrainians is underway and the capacity will be operational in early May, according to the Elysée” who did not want to specify how many pieces and how many shells will be delivered. Finally, on Saturday, around forty Ukrainian soldiers will arrive in France for training. They should join the Canjuers camp, the usual training site for French artillerymen.
