This is the second case of an oligarch’s death with his family in a short time. In both cases, the man seems to have killed his family and then himself. Former top manager of Russian gas giant Novatek Sergei Protosen, his wife and daughter have found the dead in a rented villa in Spain. Radio Sloboda, which referred to the Spanish media, reported on Thursday. According to Spanish police, the 55-year-old millionaire was hanged while his wife and daughter were stabbed. It happened on April 19 and the scene was a villa in the seaside resort of Lloret de Mar near Barcelona. Police are reportedly investigating two possible versions: according to the first Protoss, he killed his wife and daughter and then hanged himself; according to the second version, an unknown perpetrator killed the entire family and then staged the crime scene to match the murders and suicide, the Spanish news portal Telecinco said. Protoseňa, a former chief accountant of Novatek, was a member of the board of the energy company. Its assets were estimated at around 400 million euros. He lived with his family mainly in France, they allegedly arrived in Spain for the Easter holiday. On April 19, they found the murdered family of former Gazprombank vice president Vladislav Avajev in a family home in Moscow. According to a preliminary version of the investigators, Avajev shot his wife and 13-year-old daughter and then committed suicide. According to the Committee of Inquiry of the Russian Federation dealing with this case, the motive for the act may have been jealousy and family disagreement.
